The overwhelming reception accorded to chiranjeevi in the bordering districts of Srikakulam and Vijayanagaram once again ignited the political scene in the state. None, in particular both the major parties of Congress and TDP, have expected this kind of public attendance for the star turned politician and so far all political parties almost wrote off PRP as very marginal force, even after massive public meeting in temple town of Tirupathi. Huge crowds greeted Praja Rajyam founder Chiranjeevi on the second day of his Praja Ankita Yatra of the district which passed through Gollapalli, Alajangi, Terlam, Uttaravalli, Merakamudidam, Garbham, Garividi, Gural and Nellimarla.
Addressing the huge crowds, the megastar said governments should be a protector of public property. Developmental programmes should not cause hardships to people but political leaders just did not care as they were busy lining their pockets. The PRP would fight against corruption and bring about a change in the system, he asserted.
"The PRP will surely address people’s problems. That will be the main agenda of the party. I chose this region to start my yatra as I wanted the blessings of the people here," he said amidst thunderous applause.
The huge crowds stopped their idol’s convoy at every crossroad between Bobbili and Nellimarla and urged him to speak, only to be obliged. Fans shouted slogans in support of Praja Rajyam while the most popular song of the party, Nenu Saitam Prapanchagniki Ahutavutanu, was repeatedly played at junctions.
N Lakshmi, a Chiranjeevi fan, and friends from Terlam said, "We came here to see Chiranjeevi." S Musalayya and others from Uttaravalli village in Merakamudidam mandal said that somebody should emerge on the scene to control corruption.
"We welcome Chiranjeevi, we will vote for him." M Sankaramma of Alajangi village in Bobbili mandal said her favourite star should be given a chance to cleanse politics and streamline administration.
The two-day tour of the district concluded this evening.
The four-day yatra of Visakhapatnam district will start from Tagarapuvalasa on Thursday.

Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi today said his party would keep its focus firmly on the task of alleviating the sufferings of the people and said North Coastal Andhra was the right place to launch such a movement.
Setting out on the party’s two-day road show in the district to tumultuous cheers, he described North Coastal Andhra Pradesh as the ‘‘mother’’ of various movements — peasant and revolutionary, as well as the freedom struggle.
Leaders were quenching their own thirst while the common man was thirsting for a drop of water, he said.
‘‘Economic and social conditions are deteriorating because of rampant corruption. My film, Tagore, is not a movie but a mirror to reality. You are supporting me in the belief that only I can root out corruption,’’ he told the crowds.
Spelling out the reasons behind his decision to join politics, he narrated a telephonic conversation he had last night: ‘‘My mother called me around 11:30 p.m. and said she could see on TV that my face had got tanned and I was sweating profusely. She also learnt that I had yet to take my dinner even at that late hour. Mother too hadn’t eaten. She asked me whether all this was necessary?
‘‘My reply was that I had a handkerchief to wipe away my sweat. But crores of people were shedding tears every day and had nothing with which to wipe those away.’’
Corruption had been institutionalised and had spread to every section, Chiranjeevi said. Vowing to stay steadfast in the fight against graft, he said he would not change colours like other people.
Expressing anguish over corruption even in hospitals, Chiranjeevi said newborns were turning blind because pregnant women were not even given a tablet costing just 5 paise. There was a need to channelise youth power for the social good, he said.
The Praja Rajyam leader wanted to know why the State Government was announcing several new schemes and programmes at the fag-end of its tenure. ‘‘Had it forgotten the people all these last four years?’’ he wondered.

Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi Thursday launched his maiden and much-awaited state-wide “yatra” or tour from Srikakulam district in north coastal Andhra.The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) chief launched his the tour in the evening after offering prayers at Suryanarayana Swamy temple in Arasavelli near Itchapuram in Srikakulam district.
The superstar, who launched the party in August, reached Srikakulam in a helicopter from Hyderabad. En route, his chopper landed at Rajahmundry for refuelling.
Hundreds of his fans gathered outside the temple as he arrived for the prayers. Addressing the crowd, he said his party’s aim was to bring a change in the state. “I want to see prosperity and happiness,” he said amid loud cheers.
Chiranjeevi began the tour in a special vehicle. He will cover a distance of 50 km every day and address road-side public meetings.
In the first phase, the actor will cover three north coastal Andhra districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam for nine days. He will later visit the south coastal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalseema areas of the state.
Chiranjeevi has sounded the election bugle by launching the tour. The simultaneous elections to state assembly and the Lok Sabha are likely to be held in February-March next year.
All the political parties, especially the ruling Congress and the main opposition Telugu Desam Party, are keenly watching the response to Chiranjeevi’s tour. The political re-alignment in the state will also depend on the people’s response to the tour.
The two communist parties are likely to decide on aligning with the Telegu Desam Party or the PRP based on the response to Chiranjeevi’s “yatra”. Even Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) may join hands with the PRP if it takes a stand in favour of separate statehood to Telangana.
Chiranjeevi chose north coastal Andhra to begin his tour as he enjoys huge fan following in the region as well as two other coastal districts of East and West Godavari.
The actor, who hails from West Godavari district, already made waves with his visits to Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar and Warangal districts in the Telangana region.

Praja Rajyam Party chief Chiranjeevi will launch his yatra from Srikakulam on October 9 instead of Itchapuram.
According to sources, the change has became inevitable because the actor might not have enough time to reach Itchapuram.
According to the earlier plan Chiranjeevi has to perform pooja at Arasavelli near Srikakulam and has to reach Ichapuram to launch the programme.
As Ichapuram is 100 k.m. away from Srikakulam, it would take at least three hours for him to reach there.
Even if Chiranjeevi reaches Srikakulam in the morning and completes pooja by afternoon, he can’t reach Ichapuram before evening, sources clarified.
The party core committee today discussed the problem and came to the conclusion that it would be better if Chiranjeevi starts the tour from Srikakulam itself.
According to the revised schedule, Chiranjeevi would reach Srikakulam on the morning of Oct 9, and would perform pooja at Arasavelli and launch his tour from Srikakulam town.
The tour would pass through Srikurmam, Narasannapeta, Tekkali, Kasibugga, Sompeta, Kanchili and would reach Ichapuram on Oct 11.
Later he would enter Vizianagaram district at Chipurupally.
The core committee meeting could noto finalise the route of the tour in Vizianagaram district because of Sirimanu Utsavam ( the village goddess festival) which would take place on Oct 13. Lakhs would join the Utsavam and it would be difficult for the movement of the convoy.

Praja Rajyam (PR) president Chiranjeevi will visit Gangadevipalli, the village that bagged the national award for local governance, in Geesukonda mandal of Warangal district on Thursday, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti.
In a marked departure from his earlier visits to Sircilla and Polepalli that were aimed at getting first-hand information about the weavers’ plight and the special economic zone-affected people, the trip to Gangadevipalli is meant to study the local government system put in place in the village.
The CPI (M)-dominated village shot into news for its committees headed by women at grassroots level that manage drinking water, drainage and sewerage and other amenities.
“We will have to learn lessons from the village for incorporating local government issues in our party agenda,” Praja Rajyam official spokesman P. Mitra said.
Accompanied by another spokesman of Praja Rajyam Parakala Prabhakar, he announced at a press conference here on Wednesday that Mr. Chiranjeevi would commence the first leg of his proposed State-wide yatra on October 9 from Ichapuram in Srikakulam district on Vijayadasami, October 9.
The route for the first phase, expected to last about eight to nine days covering three north coastal districts, had been finalised and the coordinators were fine-tuning the programme to ensure that the film star would interact with the maximum number of people.
Committees
Refuting reports that the party had appointed coordinators for districts, they said ad hoc committees had been constituted only to oversee programmes like inauguration of party offices and hoisting party flags on Gandhi Jayanti.
“The party will keep the structure of the panels in public domain once they are finalised. We have not yet finalised any committee,” Dr. Mitra said.
Meanwhile, Congress leader from Nellore C.V. Sesha Reddy formally announced his decision to join the Praja Rajyam.
Mr. Sesha Reddy had distanced himself from the Congress since the elections to Legislative Council when he was defeated by a rebel candidate.
“There is no place for genuine workers in the Congress. This has forced me to quit the party,” he said.

The Praja Rajyam Chief, Chiranjeevi, fumbled on question of how he will solve contentious issues troubling the state, and over on the "itinerary of his maiden political tour across the state". His standard reply over the last month on any important issue has been: "We are studying it." A press conference on Sunday showed that Chiranjeevi was still grappling with policies on key issues.
Even though he visited farmers who will be displaced by the Special Economic Zone at Polepally and weavers at Sircilla, the PR chief failed to answer related queries. Angered by a volley of questions by mediapersons, a visibly upset Chiranjeevi tried to end the meeting abruptly saying: "I am not an IAS officer to know about every issue."
Earlier, referring to suicide by Sircilla weavers, the PR chief questioned the apathy of the government towards them. "Please concentrate on the welfare of weavers and curb suicides rather than criticising my visits,’ Chiranjeevi said. When asked how the PR planned to alleviate sufferings of weavers, he said: "We are examining the issue and will announce our policy soon."
The PR president replied on the same lines on restoration of land to poor farmers whose lands were acquired by SEZs, industries and other projects in the state.
Interestingly, Chiranjeevi was not sure when his maiden state-wide tour will begin. Referring to reports in a section of media that he will start his yatra on October 2, Chiranjeevi said: "It is strange that I come to know about my tour itinerary through the media. We are still to plan it. I am not sure of the date, but I will start the yatra in Srikakulam much before Dasara."
The PR chief said that his party membership drive would start on Gandhi jayanti. A top leader of the party told this newspaper at Srikakulam on Sunday that the yatra will start at Itchapuram but the date has not been confirmed. Astrologers had said Itchapuram was auspicious.
Party leaders Chegondi Hariram Jogaiah, Dr Vinay, Banguluru Ravi, Allu Aravind and two advisors of Pavan Kalyan held a meeting in the roads and building guest house in the afternoon to discuss the venue of public meetings and the route map of the yatra.

A close observation of his press conference on Sunday clearly indicated that there is a dramatic change in Chiranjeevi's style, eversince he returned from his two public visits. In the initial days of his launch of political party, Chiranjeevi used to be modest, shy and quiet in his talk and walk. He used to give innocent smiles and was hesitant to reply questions from the media.
But now, Chiranjeevi is lot more confidant. His facial expressions remind us of his heroic roles in the films, quickly changing from question to question. Even as the Praja Rajyam Party (PR) managers are busy finalising the finer details of the party president Chiranjeevi’s road shows, the ‘ratham’ to take him to people is getting ready at a workshop specialising in fabricating such vehicles on the outskirts of the city.
Contrary to expectations that it would be a hi-tech, gadget-equipped set of wheels, it appears to be just a light commercial vehicle converted into something that will effectively serve as a moving dais for the leader on short-haul drives.
Modifications
Built on a cabin and chassis of an Eicher Mitsubishi 1095 costing Rs. 7.65 lakh, the workers at Real Cars Auto Garage added some custom-built modifications. Managing Director of the garage, M.N.V. Ravindra Babu, said the additions included a raised platform and an air-conditioned cabin with three comfort seats, at a cost of Rs. 12 lakh extra.
The raised platform can take the weight of at least five people, including the leader, for whom there is a small, collapsible step a foot higher. Also in place is a high-end sound system with 10 speakers designed to carry Mr. Chiranjeevi’s voice across to audiences in a 200-metre radius.
Suspense hangs
The veil of secrecy that surrounds anything and everything has also interestingly been extended to this workshop.
The ‘ratham’ has been given two coats of white paint over a week ago and the fabricators are awaiting word as to the words that are to be inscribed, as to the name of the ‘ratham’. Only a day ago, party managers are said to have asked the garage to have a sticker affixed, depicting the ‘sun’ with blazing rays, the symbol of the Praja Rajyam.

PRP Threatens To Stall Metro Rail

The Praja Rajyam has threatened to launch an agitation if the State Government fails to come out with proper clarifications on the issues raised by Delhi Metro managing director E Sreedharan.
Talking with reporters here today, party spokesman Mithra said it was surprising that the government was going ahead with such a huge plan without discussing it with people. If it goes ahead further, we will stop the work," he warned.
"Sreeharan is regarded as one of the 50 best administrators in the world and if he raises a doubt, there would definitely be some substance in it. Instead of respecting his critisism the government has brought pressure on him and got the deal with Delhi Metro cancelled." He said his party firmly believed that a huge project like Hyderabad Metro was not feasible on the ‘build, operate, transfer’ (BOT) basis. The Mumbai Metro, taken up by the Reliance, was facing problems, he said .
"There is no information on how the construction company would raise money. It is not possible to complete the project within the stated time.
If the company leaves the project midway, it will become a white elephant for the State Governement."

Chiru’s Tour Of Districts In October First Week

Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi would embark on his much awaited districts tour in the first week of next month. The exact date would be announced in a day or two, Chiranjeevi told reporters here on monday.
"The tour would be planned keeping in view of the Dusserah and Dipavali festivals. We do not want to disturb the festival mood. I would tour three districts in five or six days and will give a break before the commencement of the next leg of the tour," the actor said.
Chiranjeevi appointed former member of parliament KSR Murty as chairman of a committee which would study the problems of the weavers in the State with a special focus on the Siricilla weavers,whom he visited few days ago. The committee would submit its report within a week and its suggestions would be incorporated in the party manifesto.
Meanwhile, sharing his Siricilla experiences, Chiranjeevi said that the conditions of weavers were appalling and they were not getting any benefits from the Government’s schemes, especially the power loom weavers. The suicides of the weavers still continue, he said.
Reacting to the comments made by TD MLA Ch Rajeswara Rao, the star said that his intention was not to hurt the eminent leader, but the conditions at Siricilla were compelling.
He said that he had great respect toward the veteran communist leader.
The PRP office bustled with activity today with the visit of hundreds of followers of the film actor from Ananthapur, Warangal, Adilabad districts.

Enthused by the huge response he received from the weavers of Sircilla, Prajarajyam president Chiranjeevi is looking at 'project-affected persons' (PAP) as his next target audience. "People affected by SEZ in Mahbubnagar district, tribals being uprooted by the bauxite mining in Vizag area and fishermen facing the threat of evacuation to make way for coastal corridors. Chiranjeevi wants to meet all these sections to know the dark side of the so-called development in the state, " sources told. "Though the suicide of farmers and weavers is a serious matter, the plight of the project-affected persons is equally a serious one. Even though some NGOs are working to help them, political parties have not been able to visualise the true dimension of the PAP," the sources said. As of now there are nearly 10 lakh people facing the threat of evacuation due to various projects and "the compensation is meagre. Rehabilitation is either not taken up or is tardy, and above all the cultural shock they received due to uprooting is immense," the sources said. Party spokesman P Prabhakar said PRP would not indulge in abusing other political parties but would instead go directly to the suffering masses. It would not only understand their problems but come out with alternative plans to improve their lives. Among other issues, chronic fluoride problem in Nalgonda districts also finds place in the priority list of the star. Apart from these familiarisation trips to problematic regions in the state, "The star is particular about visiting the church in the Medak town and the famous Pedda Masjid in Kadapa," the sources added.

Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi's first political trip to read the people's pulse at Siricilla in Karimnagar district generated a lot of euphoria.
Chiranjeevi is learnt to have decided to visit Siricilla only to test the waters, before going on a State-wide tour. He wanted to know how people would respond to him, if really goes into the people.
But why did he choose Siricilla, of all the places? First, it was only a day before that Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy visited Karimnagar district and the people reacted wildly to him. Secondly, it was only a couple of days ago that Nava Telangana Praja Party president T Devender Goud toured Karimnagar and evoked good response.
Thirdly, he wanted to really feel the people's sentiment on Telangana issue. Hence, he chose Siricilla, which is the hotbed of Telangana movement.

Megastar Chiranjeevi Ventures Into New Galaxy

As one drives through the serpentine Road No 46 in the upmarket Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad, a swanky corporate structure standing at the top of the street brings one to a natural halt, surrounded as it is by an eager but patient crowd waiting for “the star” to smile upon them.
The scene instantly reminds one of a film shoot. In fact, much like a film set, the quintessential 21st century office came up in just 40 days. But what is unfolding inside is not exactly filmi. Though the central character remains a film star — Chiranjeevi, who spent three decades in Tollywood — the script being drafted is political and the hero and his lieutenants believe it is certain to change the politics of Andhra Pradesh.
A pin-up board in one of the rooms has clippings from various newspapers of the day. One report describes how he lost his cool when fans blocked his way, another links the outburst to his unhappiness at the insignificant number of seasoned leaders joining his party. Yet another clipping from a vernacular reports that fans want him to hit the road sooner than later.
In the conference hall, a sizeable gathering awaits the leader’s return from lunch. One of them happens to be a technocrat from Harvard who wants to sell software to the new party.
The same software, the technocrat tells an NRI in the Chiru camp,was sold to Barack Obama for conducting a socio-economic survey in the US. He explains how it would be useful to Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam.
Nearby, as we chit chat in the board room sipping hot coffee, the man of the moment — Chiranjeevi — arrives to engage us in a freewheeling conversation for the next 45 minutes.
Understandably, to most questions, he tries to relate his replies to his experience in the film world. “I am pretty relaxed,’’ he says in his opening remarks on how he feels in his new role as a political leader.
While in the film industry he had to depend on his own resources, now he is more comfortable because there are quite a few friends who share his ideology and thoughts and are willing to hone them into policy programmes that can be implemented. “They provide me a lot of cushion and with the support I am getting from the people, I am confident of reaching the goal,” he avers.
The actor-turned-politician does not hesitate to concede that the decision to switch roles was a long drawn out process. Did he spend sleepless nights? “Not exactly. But for months I used to get up early in the morning and spend time alone in my room wondering how to respond to suggestions that I should enter politics,” he recalls.
Many told him that the people of the state gave him all that anyone could aspire for as an actor and it was time he repaid the debt.
He goes on: “There are many who have charisma but how many will receive the encouragement that I have to go forward?” After all, even if he had continued in films, he would have done a couple more movies before deciding to call it a day. But if he did that he would have wasted a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take up a bigger cause, more so because he believes he has the capacity to change lives for the better. That, finally, persuaded him to take the plunge.
But what about his on-screen and off-screen image? Having played characters that reflected a lot of aggression, what Chiranjeevi has shown in the month since he launched his party is a goody-goody and soft side. But he feels it is a perfectly okay approach. “I don’t think you need to be necessarily aggressive to connect to the people. On the contrary, I believe that if you show intensity in what you say, you will be able to strike a chord in their hearts.” From the angry hero in films, will the state now see an angry young politician (at 52, he is young by Indian standards) who is out to change society? He laughs heartily. “I may not portray myself as an angry politician but I am sure people will appreciate my honesty and commitment to change the way politics is pursued,” emphasising that curbing corruption and ensuring that a major chunk of the benefits go to the identified beneficiaries would be his top priority.
The Praja Rajyam founder also argues that there is nothing wrong when he keeps saying that he would try to do the same things that are being done now but in a different manner.
“Take the case of social welfare and girls hostels.
We have a lot of them even now, but the inmates suffer from lack of dining facility, toilets and a proper place to sleep.We may not be able to provide them dining tables but we can certainly give them economical cement platforms to have their food. Likewise, ensuring a mattress to sleep is not difficult. All that is required is sincerity in approach. You don’t have to necessarily change the system. If the leader sets an example, the rest will follow in great measure,” he explains.
Unconsciously, he again goes back to his past world to relate how he changed the way a hero performs dance sequences. The number of songs in a movie remained the same as before even after he joined films, but what he did do was to bring about a distinct change in the way they were played out to the audiences and they became a runaway trend-setter.
Chiranjeevi has no doubt that his lack of experience in politics will not work against him. On the contrary, it may be an advantage.
Take the case of Ram Gopal Verma, who was looked down upon as a rookie when he first wanted to direct a film or a Sekhar Kammula, an NRI who returned to the country and got into film-making, he points out and says, “They had never worked with anybody. But when they did their first movies, they were lapped up by people who liked their refreshingly fresh approach”.
Though he is only a month-old as a politician Chiranjeevi says he has stopped thinking about his past. His thoughts are not going back to the sets, trolleys and the frequent shouts of lights, action...camera… from the director.He was used to working 18 hours a day while making films and, therefore, does not find it difficult to spend 12 to 14 hours in the party office handling various tasks — meeting newcomers, discussing policies with the think-tank (they are still taking shape) and catching up with the media.
Comparisons may not always be right but Chiranjeevi has to live with the manner in which he is compared with the Telugu film giant, NT Rama Rao, who launched the Telugu Desam 25 years ago and changed the course of politics in the state.
“N T Rama Rao was, no doubt, a strongwilled person but when it comes to determination I am no less,” he says recalling that even when NTR launched Telugu Desam, support did not come overnight. At that time, people thought they had no option but to live under a Congress regime. But when the alternative came along, they looked at it and soon it turned into a groundswell of support. And Tirupati does not have the capacity to hold such a meeting. A more than ten years old marriage relationship between Pawan Kalyan and Nandini came to an end after Pawan paid a sum of Rs 5 crores as compensation on Wednesday. CDs of songs praising the ideals of megastar Chiranjeevi are all set to flood the state in the run-up to the announcement of the party in the second fortnight of the month. According to sources, Chiranjeevi is in favour of "Jai Chiranjeeva" as the name of his political party as it means blessing the people. Though several names were under consideration, the feedback from the fans and well wishers was that "Jai Chiranjeeva" would be the best. That the party should bring blessings to the people of all sections is the underlying idea, the sources added. "Even though a last minute change is not ruled out, the name of the party would certainly carry the name of the leader in one form or the other," sources said. Going by the songs in the CD, the megastar is being projected as a leader who would fight political corruption in the state. Apart from political corruption, the manifesto, which is undergoing last-minute changes, elaborately deals with environment, rights of children, commercialisation of education, growing economic burden on the middle class housewives, etc. As for education, the manifesto decries the policies of the government that encourages commercialisation. "Reimbursement of college fee for the poorer students is no solution to the maladies of education system. This, instead of tackling the issue, will further aggravate the situation," is expected to be the guiding line of the party in the education sector. "Political corruption is the root cause of all evils in society. The system is made to thrive on corruption. So, the Chiranjeeva party would try to eradicate all the factors that foster corrupt practices," is said to be Chiru's conviction. The manifesto is going to reflect the ideals of Gandhi, Jyotirao Phule-Ambedkar, Mother Teresa and former president APJ Abdul Kalam. The present political situation in the State, or for that matter in the country, is so fluid that it is difficult to predict even for the most experienced political pundits. Political parties and their leaders, too, are a confused lot as to which way voters would turn by the next elections. Even surveys conducted by their own network of people and other independent agencies are not able to project a correct picture; and build any confidence among them. Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Janma Kundali Every political leader, therefore, is now looking up to his stars, rather than political analysts, to satisfy his soul. The fortune-tellers are in great demand from the political parties ahead of the next general elections. At present, all eyes are on Chiranjeevi, who is expected to announce his "arangetram" into politics next week. Everyone is curious to find out what astrologers have to predict about his future in politics. While there is more or less unanimity in predicting a bright future for Chiranjeevi in politics, there are contradictory versions about the timing of his political entry. According to Vakkantham Chandramouli, a popular Hyderabad-based Vedic astrologer, though Chiranjeevi has the support of stars that would put him on the top, it is not advisable for him to enter politics before November 2009. But, if he wants to struggle at the cost of his health and public image, he can go ahead. Another famous numero-palmist M Narayana Ramana Rao of Maandru Astropalmistry Research Analysis Society, Bhimavaram, also says August is not the right month for the launch of new political parties. "There is a kala sarpa dosham in this month. It is witnessing two Amavasyas and two eclipses, which is not an auspicious sign. I suggest that Chiranjeevi start his party in October, because all planets are favourable for him in that month. Only then can he gain strength to defeat the Congress led by Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who is reigning supreme now," Ramana Rao told Deccan Post. Similar opinion was expressed by Prof D L N Murthy in a recent publication. He, however, said in spite of his successful entry into politics, Chiranjeevi would never be able to become the Chief Minister or Prime Minister, as moon, his "Rajyadhi pathi," is in a weak position. Another city-based astrologer, who refuses to be named, says the year 2009 is not 'suitable' for his political career. "Even if he becomes the Chief Minister, he would not be in power for more than six months," he predicted. However, other astrologers say Chiranjeevi has all the chances of ruling the State in the coming days. "Going by his horoscope, there is a perfect match between the planetary positions and his life. There is no dispute that this horoscope is one among the greatest and the fewest. He will reach the top position between 2009 and 2012 and he will become an internationally reputed leader in this period," says another astrologer. Prof Komaragiri Venkata Ramana Rao, an astrologer-scientist, says Chiranjeevi has a Maha-purusha yogam called Sasa yogam, which would give him a top position of a ruler. So he gets success, prosperity, power, name and fame. "The present period is Saturn period and Sani is maha-raja-yogakaraka for him; so the chances for his success in the field of politics are fairly high," he says. Another astrologer, however, says with moon and Saturn together, Chiranjeevi would suffer from emotions, indecisiveness, fear and possibly some erratic thinking. "This may not be a good sign for political leadership," he points out. In the wake of contradictory astrological predictions, Chiranjeevi is said to be taking all remedial measures to overcome whatever impediments that are caused by stars and planets in his birth chart. "He will perform a yagam at Kanchi to ward off evils, before he formally announces the launch of his new political party," sources close to him said. What about the TDP? According to Chandramouli, the party is going through a bad phase now, going by the timing of the launch of the party (March 29, 1982, 2.30 pm). The "Antardasha" of Planet Budha, within Rahu Mahardasa, which began on June 23, 2008, will continue up to January 2011. "This will not help the TD in any way. It is not possible for the party to come to power independently, but it has some fair chances if it has an alliance with any other party," Chandramouli says. "Personally for Naidu, bad days continue till January 2009." Another astrologer also predicts that 2009 would be a very bad year for the TDP . It would lose more seats than it won in the last elections. On the fate of the TRS and its president K Chandrasekhar Rao, Chandramouli says it is also undergoing Rahu Mahardasa, which will continue till 2023. However, it has Guru Antardasa, which began on June 26, 2008 and will last till 2010. "This will help the party. It might show better results in 2009 and keep up its identity. It has to struggle a lot and take the other like-minded parties along with it to achieve its goal of Telangana," he said. For NTPP president T Devender Goud, stars are a little favourable. "The muhurtham in which he started his party - Kanya Lagnam, Swathi Nakshtram and Tula Rasi (July 11, 2008, 10.45 am) - is very powerful. However, he has to struggle a lot even to get an average result, because he is under the shadow of Saturn," Chandramouli says. Setting aside Chiranjeevi's political party, YSR seems to be sitting pretty compared to all other parties. "Going by the available date of birth of YSR - July 8, 1949, 10 pm, his planetary position is perfect. He is also under Rahu Mahardasa. The beauty of Rahu planet is that it can make or mar the prospects of a person. So far, YSR has achieved only success under its influence," Chandramouli added. According to well-known Vedic astrology expert, T V R K Murthy alias Viswapathi, YSR's Sun sign is cancer, which is the sign of the teacher or master. "His Jupiter gives him all the strength to overcome any crisis. But Saturn may give him some troubles in the coming months. There is a peculiar problem with film stars entering politics. They are used to interacting only with film correspondents, most of whom do not command respect before these stars. This is not to belittle any film correspondent, but many of them also do PR job for the film stars; therefore, whatever the stars dictate, they write it. So, such film stars tend to think that they can behave similarly with all other reporters. In the earlier days of entering politics, too, N T Rama Rao used to think that all journalists were same. When he first addressed press conference after launching Telugu Desam, senior political correspondents from leading dailies came to his residence. When he entered the press conference hall, he thought all the correspondents would get up and wish him, as it was his experience with the film journos. But nothing of that sort had happened, as political correspondents were not used to such practice. NTR looked at his then political advisor P Upendra with a frowning face and the latter quietly told him that they were all political correspondents and not film correspondents. It took some time for NTR to deal with political correspondents. Now, megastar Chiranjeevi, too, is entering politics. Hitherto, he dealt with only film journalists. Now, he would have to encounter political correspondents. He needs to be a little careful while talking to the media, especially since electronic media is hyperactive and has the capacity to distort any news according to its own convenience. It may sound strange but coastal Andhra leaders of Telugu Desam now want separate Telangana, all thanks to superstar Chiranjeevi. The actor’s plan to enter politics has changed the mindset of Andhra leaders of the TD to an extent. They are now stepping up pressure on the TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, to soften the party’s stand over separate statehood in order to forge an electoral understanding with the Telangana Rastra Samiti.The same leaders had earlier bluntly rejected a truck with the Telangana Rastra Samiti and opposed the idea of a separate state.However, they now feel that after Chiranjeevi’s political entry, the TD may witness desertions large-scale desertions in coastal Andhra, which may have repercussions in other regions. So, to counter the impact of Chiranjeevi’s proposed party, a tie-up with TRS is necessary. This will instil confidence in the party workers of Andhra region that the TD would win the 2009 polls. Senior leaders from Andhra region including Mr K. Yerrannaidu, Mr Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, and Mr Kodela Shiva Prasada Rao were earlier staunch supporters of united Andhra. However, they have changed tack after the exit of Mr T. Devender Goud and are now amenable to the Telangana idea. When Mr Goud was in the TD, there had been sharp exchanges between him and Mr Ramakrishnudu over Telangana. In the first meeting of TD five-member committee on Telangana too, Mr Goud was singled out for criticism.All this has changed now. When asked about the possible tie-up between the TD and the TRS, Mr Yerrannaidu replied, "We will adopt whatever strategy is needed to dislodge this government in next elections." He added that the Congress was the main enemy of the people and the TD would do everything to defeat that party.Talking to this newspaper, Mr Shiva Prasada Rao also said the TD was not against Telangana. "Some leaders of our party are under the impression that if we take pro-Telangana stance, people of Andhra area may not accept it," he said. "This notion is wrong. One should not forget that Andhra people also agitated for state bifurcation." Another senior leader from Andhra said that there was no point in the TD opposing the idea of Telangana.
